30 posts of kink – Define your kinky self

Since I enjoyed my last blogging challenge so much, I’ve decided to pick up another one. This next one is 30 Days of Kink, but I’m going to shift it a bit to make it 30 posts, and I’ll probably actually leave some out or intersperse publication information and flash pieces I like to share with you. The challenge can be found here. I’ll also be shifting it so that it’s more about my identity as a writer and less about my preferences when possible.

So, without further ado, today I shall attempt to define my kinky self as an author.

Who am I? The eternal question. As a kinkster, I’m a switch, which means I can be either dominant or submissive, though I have distinct preferences, depending on the dynamics of the relationship with my partner. I’m personally interested in power exchange, mind games, and words. I’m sure that as an erotica writer, I like the use of words and mind games will come as no surprise. I identify more closely with (but not entirely as) what I’ve just learned is called a “service top.” As in, I enjoy administering a gamut of things but not because they’re things I take personal enjoyment out of so much (I’d never call myself a sadist), more so because my partners enjoy those things. I’m also the Lady to a lovely submissive named Pet.

As an author, I haven’t explored kink much, but I’d like to. There’s very little in the way of kink or BDSM in my shared writing. (Actually, come to think of it, that’s not true. I’ve written about knife play and blood play on more than one occasion. Those characters–Mike and Daniel [yes, the same Mike and Daniel as from Nurse’s Orders, just in a different ‘world’]–are pretty kinky and dark, and generally only live in my head.) I was discussing this challenge with Eye just a few days ago and I told her all of my characters are relatively vanilla. She raised her eyebrow at me and said “Really? Angelo is vanilla?” She makes a good point, and sometimes I think Eye knows more about my characters than I do. So I spent a good amount of time considering my characters and putting them in kinky situations in my head. It’s been quite the exercise, and I think this will probably spawn some timestamps for both Falling Apart and Nurse’s Orders. Keep an eye out.

Of my existing (published) characters, here’s what I’ve come up with. Billy and Ryder really like the use of words, dirty talk especially. They are new to the whole thing, but I think they’ll get there eventually. Billy likes to hear Ryder run his mouth, and he’ll pull out all the stops to hear what Ryder has to say in bed. Ryder’s shy about it, and can’t believe how ridiculous he sounds, but he swears like a sailor in the bedroom because it turns Billy on, and we all know that Ryder would do near anything to keep Billy close. Those two kids are so in love, I’m sure they’ll figure it out.

Angelo likes to be roughed up quite a bit, and he identifies as a submissive and a masochist. He also likes the head games, if his years of teasing with Daniel weren’t evidence enough. Daniel is finding that he enjoys his dominant side as a way to unwind from his long days and stressful job. He’s learning his kinky side in terms of administering the rough stuff to Angelo, and their fuck-buddy relationship is going quite nicely.

It’s been a great exercise to get into my characters’ heads and talk with them about kink and BDSM. They’ve showed me a great deal, and I look forward to incorporating it into my writing soon.
